70 kg poppy husk seized near Mohali; one arrested,another absconding
The Mohali police,on Thursday,seized 70 kg of poppy husk from a dhaba in Saneta village near Mohali and arrested one person,while another is reported absconding.
Rajesh Kumar,who belongs to Kaithal in Haryana,was arrested on the spot and has been booked for alleged possession and supply of poppy husk under sections 15,61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
According to police,a team led by Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) incharge Gurcharan Singh raided the Ekam dhaba on the Landran-Banur road near Saneta village after receiving a tip-off that the owner Sonny,along with an employee Rajesh Kumar,regularly sold poppy husk to truck-drivers and other customers. While police nabbed Kumar,Sonny is still absconding. A case has been registered against both the accused under sections 15,61 and 85 of the NDPS Act at the Sohana police station. Police said preliminary investigations have revealed that Kumar had recently been granted bail in another case under NDPS Act in Patiala. The police also learnt that caustic soda stolen from factories was being stored in drums owned by one Gurmukh Gir,alias Raju,in a plot adjacent to the dhaba.
Man arrested for kidnapping minor girl
The Chandigarh police arrested a resident of Colony No 5 for allegedly kidnapping a 14-year-old girl. According to police,the victims mother alleged that the accused,Amarjit Singh,had kidnapped her daughter on October 15.
Singh,who is also the victims neighbour,was arrested yesterday from his residence. Singh (23) is a labourer,police said. A case of kidnapping and criminal intimidation under the IPC has been registered at Sector 34 police station.
5 cops honoured on Police Commemoration Day
Five Mohali policemen were honoured at a function organised to celebrate Police Commemoration Day at Gian Jyoti Institute of Management and Technology on Thursday.
SSP Gurpreet Bhullar was the chief guest at the function where Mahesh Kumar,Harminder Singh,Gurpratap Singh and Krishan Dev were honoured.
