FACING FLAK for covering the eyesores at Hallomajra with 12-foot -long bamboo chiks, the UT Administration on Friday removed these after carrying out a cleanliness drive in the area throughout the day.

Sources said that UT Adviser Vijay Kumar Dev pulled up the engineering wing for putting up these chiks and directed Home Secretary Anurag Aggarwal to pay a visit to the site. After visiting the site, the Home Secretary in the evening directed the officials to remove the chiks with immediate effect.

Since morning, the Municipal Corporation had been on its toes to clean up the area. “Rarely is this area cleaned and we were surprised to see so many people coming here to do that. I had been pleading with officials to remove the malba, and now within a day, they have cleaned it,” said Vishnu, a resident.

The engineering department claimed that they had carried out a drive to clean up the area but as the residents continued to throw waste on the roadside, they had to put these chiks.

“They had to remove these bamboo chiks,” said Jannat Jahan, a local councillor. “Why can’t they pay attention to this area by cleaning it up regularly and not trying all these things at the eleventh hour?”
