IT WILL take another couple of months to complete repair work of the road separating sectors 11 and 12.

The carpeting of this stretch, which caters to the traffic from Panjab University and PGI, is likely to be completed by the end of March now. One of the reasons for delay is that carpeting of roads could not take place during winters. A cycle track will also be constructed on the same stretch. Officials of the engineering wing say that it would take two months for the completion of the cycle track.

Chief Engineer Mukesh Anand said that the work which got delayed due to winters would begin soon. “The carpeting of the road has been delayed due to the weather. It would begin on March 1 and we will try to complete it as soon as possible,” he added.

As the road has been closed to commuters, they have been going through a harrowing time. “We have been facing a lot of inconvenience as we have to take another route to go to the university. The other route is highly time- consuming,” said Ashish Kapoor, a student of PU.

The repair work has made life difficult for the commuters who have to come from Sector 11 to Panjab University gate no. 1. “The road has been closed for the past few months and I don’t see any labour working there. If the MC cannot resume the work now then they shouldn’t have started the work, knowing about the weather,” said Vijay Narang, a resident of Sector 11.

Uday Sharma, a shopkeeper at Panjab University, said that he had been taking the route for the last several years and has been going through a harrowing time. “Heavy jams are witnessed in the morning and evening,” said Sharma.
