SUNDAY AFTERNOON saw animal lovers from across the Tricity hold a peaceful protest march in the Sector 49 Housing Board Society to “pressure the establishment for strict action against animal cruelty”.

The march was held following the death of a female dog last week in the same society. The protesters also questioned the post-mortem report which ruled out any severe injury to the female dog which was allegedly beaten to death in Sector 49, Housing Board Society. It had stated death due to cardio pulmonary arrest. The certificate was issued by GVH Hallomajra, Chandigarh.

The animal activists said the society members should stop harassing the complainant and eyewitness, Charanjit Singh. Charanjit had complained that a man had allegedly beaten the dog with his stick on October 28, after which it succumbed to injuries on October 30. Reshamjit Kaur of Protection and Care for Animals made a police complaint, but no case was registered.
