Chandigarh: One killed, four injured in four separate road accidents

The accused of the fourth incident was arrested and later bailed out.

One person was killed and four others injured in four separate road accidents in the city over Friday and Saturday. Police have arrested one person in one of the cases.According to police, on Friday night an unknown cart-puller hit a scooter driven by a 35-year old Sector 30 resident. The incident happened between the Kalagram and housing board light point and the police said that the scooter driver sustained serious injuries. “He was taken to PGI and the doctors declared him brought dead,” said police. The victim has been identified as Ashok. Police said they have registered a case at Manimajra police station for the arrest of the accused cart-puller.

Police said the accident happened around 9.30 pm on Friday. The post-mortem was conducted on Saturday.

In a second incident, police said two people were injured during an accident between a motorcycle and a scooter. The incident occurred near Kendriya Vidyalaya in Sector 31. Police said that in the accident, two people were admitted to GMCH in Sector 32, and that both of them were stable.

According to a police statement on Saturday, two more accidents happened under the jurisdiction of the Industrial area police station. “A case was registered in Police Station – Industrial area, on the statement of Firasat Ali, a Sector 29 resident, against the driver of an unknown car who sped away after hitting a pedestrian lady namely Bina Rawat,” the police said. The incident happened at the light point in Sector 29/30 on Friday. The police said that the victim was injured and admitted in GMCH-32.

In a fourth incident, police said, one person was injured in a road accident in Sector 30 on Friday.

Complainant Kailash Chand, made a complaint against a car driver identified as Akash. The complainant said that the accused hit the complainant’s scooter, injuring him in the process. “The accused was arrested and later bailed out. Investigation of the case is in progress,” said the police.
