Additional district and sessions judge Anshu Shukla on Monday sentenced Virat Kumar, a resident of Sector 46, to rigorous imprisonment of seven years for cheating and raping a woman. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on him. The victim filed a complaint in the court in 2015 stating that the accused had drugged her and then raped her in 2011. The victim alleged that Virat clicked obscene pictures to blackmail her and exploited her from 2011 to 2012. Virat was held guilty, as the victim stood by her statement. The court had last year passed a direction to the police to register a case against the accused, and after investigation, the mother and son were booked. The court acquitted Virat’s mother on Friday. The defence counsel said the victim knew Virat for the last two years.
