A scintillating century by Sharad Lumba (108 off 78 balls) guided BTM Warriors to a four-wicket win over fancied ONGC, Delhi and emerge as the champions in the 23rd All India JP Atray Memorial Cricket Tournament played at IS Bindra PCA Stadium, Mohali on Friday.
Batting first, ONGC, Delhi posted a competitive total of 271 runs in 49.5 overs. Batting in sunny conditions, ONGC, Delhi lost two quick wickets at the start and were placed at 14 for 2 in 4.3 overs. Prashant Bhandari and Radheyshyam Gupta were then associated in a 50-run partnership for the third wicket before Gupta was caught and bowled by Karanveer at an individual score of 31 runs. Bhandari and Mayank Rawat added 49 runs for the fourth wicket before Bhandari was removed by S Dhariwal. Bhandari played a knock of 44 runs off 77 balls and smashed two boundaries and one six during his stay at the crease. Rawat also shared a 95-run partnership with Lakshay Threja to take ONGC score past 200. Rawat returned to the pavillon after playing a knock of 81 runs off 84 balls as Yadav took a brilliant catch off the bowling of Karanveer Singh. Rawat smashed six boundaries and three sixes during his knock.
Threja played a knock of 44 runs off 36 balls which consisted of five boundaries. Threja was caught by Gaurav Gambhir off the bowling of Varun Khanna as ONGC, Delhi posted a total of 271 in 49.5 overs. For BTM Warriors, Jaskaran Bhuttar was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed five wickets for 40 runs while Karanvir Singh claimed three wickets for 66 runs. Varun Khanna claimed one wicket for 43 runs while S Dhaliwal claimed one wicket for 44 runs.
Chasing a tough target of 272 runs in the allotted 50 overs, BTM Warriors successfully chased the score for the loss of six wickets in 47.4 overs. Sharad Lumba was the star of the day for the BTM Warriors team as he played a blistering knock of 108 runs off 78 balls. Lumba smashed 13 boundaries and one six during his stay at the crease. Lumba stitched together a 134-run partnership with Gaurav Gambhir for the fifth wicket. Gambhir played a knock of 48 runs off 63 balls as he hit five boundaries.
For ONGC, Mayank Dagar claimed two wickets for 68 runs while Suhail Sharma grabbed one wicket for 31 runs. Mayank Rawat claimed one wicket for 32 runs. Pankah Jaisal claimed one wicket for 60 runs.
Sharad Lumba was named Man of the Match and was also adjudged as the best batsman of the tournament. Jaskaran Singh Bhuttar of B TM Warriors was adjudged as the best all-rounder while Varun Khanna of BTM Warriors was adjudged as best bowler with 11 wickets.
