ELECTIONS TO the posts of new president and executive members of the Chandigarh Golf Club were held on Sunday. It was a battle between two presidential candidates Dr Avtar Singh and Ishwar Pratap Singh Mann.
In the evening, when the voting was concluded, 886 out of 1,800 members had cast their votes to elect the new president and 13 executive members of the club for 2016-17.
Both the presidential candidates have been emphasising that if elected, they will work to improve the club.
According to the club members, counting of votes will be held on Monday morning. “It will start at 9 am and by 10 am, we will be able to announce the new president of the Golf Club,” said a member. “At 11 am, the counting for selection of executive members will start and the result will be announced by 5 pm.”
Last week, a local court had dismissed an application which was filed by Dr Avtar Singh Khara, seeking a stay on Sunday’s elections of the club. Khara had objected to the candidature of I P S Mann for the post of president . Earlier this month, the returning officer had rejected Khara’s complaint. After that, he approached the court.
