CHANDIGARH WILL see mist and shallow fog for the next 48 hours, according to the Chandigarh weather department. On Wednesday, the foggy conditions around the airport area disrupted air traffic for the entire day. Weather department officials, however, said the city would not see any dense fog for the next few days. “The fog cover is likely to continue for two more days, till the western disturbance passes through the city,” said an official.

There are two fog observatory points in the city — one at Sector 39 and another at the airport. MeT department said that fog was reported from the airport observatory point on Wednesday. “Another observatory centre didn’t report foggy conditions,” the official said.

He added that on Wednesday, the visibility around the airport area, remained between 500 metres and one km. “For the entire days the airport reported visibility of 750 metres,” he said. “The temperature has already dropped. The increase in moisture could be the factors responsible for fog,” said another weather official.

He said a western disturbance was approaching from December 9 and will pass through the city. “It will remain active for few days till it moves towards Jammu & Kashmir. Once the disturbance passes through city, we may see less fog,” said the official.

“The foggy conditions arelikely to be a routine feature for sometime now because of winter,” said A K Dogra, meteorologist, Chandigarh weather department.
