Chandigarh celebrates World Wetland Day

World Wetland Day was celebrated by Department of Forest and Environment,Chandigarh Administration with the Department of Science and Technology and the NGO Yuvsatta at Sukhna Lake on Thursday.

World Wetland Day was celebrated by Department of Forest and Environment,Chandigarh Administration with the Department of Science and Technology and the NGO Yuvsatta at Sukhna Lake on Thursday. D K Tiwari,secretary Forest,Environment and Science and Technology was the chief guest. He released a brochure of migratory birds which contained details regarding their habitat,migration along with their pictures. The brochure also has details on the available facilities for bird watching at the lake.

Santosh Kumar,Conservator of Forest and Director,Environment and Science and Technology said the Bareheaded Goose,Brahmy Duck,Common Duck,Grey and Purple Heron are the prominent species,commonly seen at Sukhna lake.

About 1000 students of different schools were present at the lake. The main aim of the programme was to sensitise students to protect and conserve the birds and their habitat.
