A 20-YEAR-OLD man was killed in a road accident on Chandigarh-Zirakpur border after a rashly driven tractor-trolley hit his bike on Monday morning. Police arrested the tractor driver after registering a case of rash driving against him. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Utkarsh Rana, a resident of Zirakpur. Utkarsh was a student of BCom at a private college in Mohali. He took coaching for the competitive test of Chartered Accountant (CA) in a private coaching centre in Chandigarh.
Utkarsh was coming to Chandigarh on his bike around 9.30 am and when he crossed the Chandigarh-Zirakpur border, a rashly driven tractor-trolley overtook him and hit his bike from the side. Utkarsh fell on the ground and was crushed under the tyre of the trolley. The trolley was laden with bricks and the driver could not stop it as it was at high speed.
Sunny, a Zirakpur resident who witnessed the incident, said that the head of the victim was totally crushed under the tyres of the trolley. He added that after the accident, some people called the control room and informed the police while the driver of the tractor managed to flee. Speaking to Chandigarh Newsline, the Station House Officer of Sector 31, Jasvir Singh, said that the driver of the tractor who was identified as Sri Ram was arrested and was booked for rash driving. The body of the victim was handed over to the family after post-mortem.
