Chandigarh batsmen lose the plot against formidable Amritsar

Riding high on power-packed performance from its bowlers Sanjeev Sharma and Ravi Kanojia,Amritsar demolished Chandigarh by six wickets in a limited overs match played during the U-19 Punjab Inter-District cricket tournament at the PCA stadium in Mohali on Saturday.

Riding high on power-packed performance from its bowlers Sanjeev Sharma (4 for 39) and Ravi Kanojia (3 for 31),Amritsar demolished Chandigarh by six wickets in a limited overs match played during the U-19 Punjab Inter-District cricket tournament at the PCA stadium in Mohali on Saturday. Despite a solid start from its openers Jaskaran Singh and Shivam Bhambri,Chandigarh batsmen lost the plot in the mid-way of the innings and were bowled out for 174 runs in 47 overs. Jaskaran and Shivam were involved in a 44-run opening wicket partnership. After the first wicket fell in the form of Shivam for 25,Chandigarh suffered a collapse against the Amristar bowlers. Though,Bhagminder Singh and Simranpreet Singh tried to put Chandigarh back on the track by adding 46 runs for the third wicket,it did not prove enough.

Thereafter,Simranpreet along with Udit Hari Mehta,stitched a partnership of 37 runs for the fourth-wicket. At this stage,Chandigarh were 131 runs for the loss of four wickets in 33.4 overs.

Chandigarh innings collapsed thereafter and they were bundled out for 174 runs. Simranpreet Singh was the top scorer with 55 runs off 79 balls. It was combined bowling effort from Sanjiv Kumar (4 for 39) and Rahul Kanojia (3 for 31) that restricted the Chandigarh team. In reply,Amritsar easily achieved the target in 30 overs for the loss of four wickets. Karan Sharma (86) and Rohan Marwaha (48) batted sensibly to help Amritsar garner five points,including a bonus.

Patiala snub Mohali

Led by Manpreet and Karan Kaila’s unbeaten knocks of 60 and 41 respectively,Patiala beat Mohali by eight wickets in a match played at the Dhruve Pandove Stadium in Patiala. Apart from them,Vicky Sharma (4 for 20) and Sukhwinder (3 for 39) also helped Patiala snub Mohali due to their tremendous bowling performances. Mohali were bundled out for 153 runs in 42.3 overs. Subeer Hayer (48) showed some resistance,but the other batsmen let the team down with ordinary display. Batting second,Patiala achieved the target in 28 overs by losing two wickets. Manpreet and Karan milked the Patiala bowlers with intelligent strokeplay.

Mandeep,Mansab hit tons

Meanwhile in another match played at the Burlton Park in Jalandhar,Mansab Gill (133) and Mandeep Singh (117) guided Jalandhar to a facile 112-run triumph over Ludhiana. Batting first,Jalandhar posted a massive total of 310 runs for the loss of two wickets in theallotted 50 overs. Openers Mansab and Mandeep clobbered the Ludhiana bowlers all over the ground. The duo raised a double century opening wicket stand (208) in 37.3 overs before Mansab Gill retired hurt for 133 off 160 balls. His partner Mandeep also went on to hit a century (117) off 122 balls. Ludhiana bowlers looked clueless while tackling the Jalandhar openers. Chasing down a massive total of 310 runs was always a huge task for Ludhiana batsmen. Eventually they managed to score mere 198 runs in 43.3 overs. Sandeep Singh top scored for the Ludhiana team with 66 runs.
