The Punjab Chief Electoral Officer has responded to the Shiromani Akali Dals allegations of bias by stating that the party had only submitted ten complaints,of which,eight were redressed. Addressing the media on Tuesday,Usha Sharma,Special Chief Electoral Officer Punjab,said: In the first ten days the ruling SAD never gave any complaint and after that gave ten complaints out of which eight have been redressed. While IRB commandant Harmanbir Singh has been shifted from Ludhiana,Peo-Puttar words in advertisements have been banned. We have recently got 117 complaints against PTC by all Congress candidates that the channel is doing biased reporting with no specific allegations. We have reverted back to them to pin point a particular report otherwise nothing.
The special CEO also played down the Akalis pointing out that the Punjab CEO and state Congress chief,Amrinder Singh belonged to the same village. Last Parliamentary elections the Akali Dal had raised the same issue that CEO Punjab Kusumjit Sidhu and Congress President Capt Amarinder Singh belonged to the same village. Her family had shifted out from there for many generations,it is not an issue and also the ECI has not asked her about it, said Sharma.
The Punjab chief electoral officer has suspended Bareta SHO Sikandar Singh and Raghvinder Singh has been posted in his place,Sharma said before adding that the department has also transferred SHO Rama,Gamdoor Singh and posted Inspector Kuldeep Singh in his place. The SHO(city) Malout,Harinder Singh has been transferred and Sub-Inspector Jugraj Singh has been posted in Malout,Sub-Inspector Rajinder Pal Singh has replaced Gursewak Singh SHO Kabarwala Muktsar who has been transferred.
On transfers in the Local Bodies Department,she said Gurmeet Singh,XEN,Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board Gurdaspur,has been transferred to Chandigarh following a complaint and Daleep Kumar has been sent in his place. Devinder Pal Singh SDO Amritsar has replaced Harpreet Singh SDO who has been transferred from Batala to Chandigarh. Also on a complaint submitted by the PPP accusing Special Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister,KJS Cheemas open involvement with a political party,she said a report has been sought from the chief secretary in this regard. We will be more vigilant in the coming days to ensure the check the flow of liquor,drugs or any other such item which can sway the voters and influence them,in Punjab, Sharma said.
She also said that unaccounted cash worth Rs.30.64 crore has been referred to the IT Department. Besides that,1,97,345 licensed arms have been deposited and 59 unlicensed arms and 250 ammunition have been seized. The Commission has received 2,400 complaints of model code violations,of which 1,510 have been resolved.
