The transporters, whose trucks carrying cattle from Chandigarh were torched in Haryana,on Monday met Mayor Subhash Chawla to demand compensation for their loss. They said they were forced to change their route at the last moment even after resisting.
Initially, the trucks were to go to Barsana in UP from Faridabad. The transporters alleged that at the eleventh hour they were asked to go from Gurgaon. On the way, they encountered a mob that torched 16 trucks.
The municipal corporation (MC) has been claiming that since the trucks are insured, the owners would be compensated. As such, there is no provision in the MC to give compensation. Further, with the incident occurring in Haryana,it is being stated that the state government should announce compensation.
The transporters, however, said that while the trucks are insured, there is depreciation in the amount that they would be paid. So the MC should compensate for the loss as the trucks were on government duty.
