Coming down harshly on people keeping cattle, the Municipal Corporation will ask the police to register cases against the defaulters. Keeping cattle within the municipal limits is not permissible.

It was decided on Thursday that the cattle caught would not be released and instead complaints would be filed.

The civic body had faced much flak after the death of a Sector-45 resident, who had died after his two-wheeler hit stray cattle.

Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner Sunil Bhatia said,“If an MC team catches a cattle,it will not be released and a case will be registered against the owner, who comes to claim it”.

The drive to catch stray cattle began in April. Till now,the MC has caught 228 stray cattle from the municipal limits and a fine of Rs 1.23 lakh has been collected. MC had constituted four cattle catching teams for the purpose.

The Municipal Corporation has started the process of shifting stray cattle to cattle sheds outside the city. As many as 301 cattle have been shifted till now. The decision was taken as cattle pounds in the city were filled to capacity. After sending cattle to sheds in Delhi, the civic body is now set to send some to Barsana,Uttar Pradesh.
