Case against religious ringtones

Arguing that setting of religious songs or hymns as ringtones hurt religious sentiments,a Punjab resident on Monday moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court and sought directions to the Centre to ensure that such religious songs are not set as ringtones.

CHANDIGARH: Arguing that setting of religious songs or hymns as ringtones hurt religious sentiments,a Punjab resident on Monday moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court and sought directions to the Centre to ensure that such religious songs are not set as ringtones.

‘File reply on sarais near Golden Temple’

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has asked the Amritsar deputy commissioner,to file an affidavit furnishing information with regard to permission for buildings to be used as sarais (resthouses) near the Golden Temple. The Punjab government on Monday filed an affidavit that each time the Municipal Corporation authorities go to the temple to remove the encroachments around it,people living in the vicinity state that an application,whether to permit buildings to be used as sarai,is already pending with the DC.

HC issues notices over PCS exam

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday issued notices to Punjab and other respondents on a petition seeking the quashing of a notice dated April 30 issued by Punjab Public Service Commission introducing physical efficiency test for candidates clearing PCS main examinations for the post of DSPs. The petitioner,Narinder Kumar of Patiala,contended that the candidates have “now been arbitrarily subjected to the newly introduced physical efficiency test” and has alleged that the test was being introduced at a belated stage after the petitioner had cleared his PCS (preliminary) and main examination.
