By-election to the Calgary-Greenway Assembly constituency will be held on March 22. The seat fell vacant after the death of its representative Manmeet Bhullar in a car accident last year.

The Indo-Canadian majority area is likely to witness another match up between Indo-Canadian candidates.

This time New Democratic Party (NDP), which is in power at the Centre, has fielded Roop Rai, while Progressive Conservative party has given its ticket to Parabhdeep Gill and Davinder Toor will contest as a candidate from Wildrose Party. The Libarals fielded Khalil Karbani as their candidate.

There are two independent candidates in the fray as well. From the last Federal elections 19 candidates who have their origins in Punjab went on to become members in the Canadian Parliament.

SS Khurana, a Punjabi settled in Canada and a keen observer of the elections, said that in Calgary there is a huge competition among the Punjabi candidate and every political party.
