At the Panjab University campus, while students were seen busy campaigning in various departments, the authorities were trying to pull the strings on any kind of illegal activities that might cause a mishap.

Security Check!

Two night vision cameras were put up to monitor the activities at the tents. During the security check at the gates on Monday and Tuesday,a hunter and an airgun were confiscated.

Hostel Check!

Campaign timings for the hostels have been fixed. While PUSU was allowed to take out a rally near the girls’ hostels on Tuesday,SOPU’s rally is scheduled for Wednesday. The police department along with PU authorities conducted raids at boys’ hostel numbers 3,4,5 and 8,at 4 am on Monday. About five outsiders were found from hostel number 5 and were let off after giving a warning.

SOPU protest

Mudslinging began in the university elections as SOPU leaders staged a protest in front of the VC’s office against PUSU president Sukhjit Brar. They alleged that Brar’s mess bill for the past eight months has exceeded one lakh rupees and that he is not even a hostel student now.

They alleged that the current address provided by him to the university is also false. SOPU leaders demand that the university ban his entry to the PU campus, cancel his admission, register a case of fraud under the provisions of the IPC and ban PUSU from contesting the elections. The VC has ordered an enquiry into the matter.

INSO against SOPU
