Small screen weighed heavy on ramlila

Such was the influence of television serials on the ‘heavenly’ characters that even they scheduled their appearance according to the time booked by the small screen characters. The Ramlila that was recently being performed at various places in the city would start only after the popular television serials like Kaun Banega Crorepati would wind up. Even the entry of Ram or Ravana on stage would depend on these serials. The reason: people used to move out of their places once these serials would finish. ‘But please do not mention this that crorepati decides the time schedule for Ramlila requested one of the organisers when he was being interviewed.

Celebrations or mockery?

Cracking jokes during the panel discussion at the Golden Jubilee function of CCA this week, the former principals of the college happened to go overboard while explaining the examination system of the institution. They stated that the college is liberal enough to provide a first division degree even to the most non-serious students. They even said that this is one way of keeping the “legacy” of CCA alive.

The ‘misspelled’ Home Secretary

The tech-savy Chandigarh Administration, might be boasting of a swanky Information Technology Park, but have failed to correct their basics. The 1988-batch AGMUT cadre IAS officer, who was given charge of Home and various other coveted departments, has been spelled wrong on the official website of Chandigarh Administration. The officer Satya Gopal,is being named as Satya Pal on the website of Chandigarh Administration. While the IT department of the Administration was quick enough in updating his new departments; it failed to mention the correct name. High time,UT corrects its basics.

PU teachers adopt way of anna

With the Anna movement taken all over including the Panjab University teachers who had recently warned the authorities to sit on an indefinite dharna and hunger strike outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office if their long pending demands are not met. This seemed to have worked as today the Vice-Chancellor had called an emergency syndicate meeting where all the major pending demands were approved within 30 minutes,as the meeting started at 9 am and concluded at 9.30am.

Unanimous agreement

During the recent house meeting of the Municipal Corporation,Chandigarh,a very interesting and peculiar supplementary agenda item was brought during the proceedings of the house. It was stated that the main urinals in one of the prominent markets in the city were under the Pipal tree which is very sacred to a religious community and thus it hurts religious sentiments whenever anybody uses it and therefore it should be moved from there. Needless to say,at least for once, the entire house was unanimous in agreement. If only they would agree unanimously to other development works proposed in the agendas month after month, the city would have definitely been a city beautiful in the real sense,by now.
