The district unit of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) staged a dharna here on Thursday to protest against the rising prices and atrocities against Dalits in Punjab.
Protesting near the District Administrative Office,party members criticised the Akali government
for being anti-poor and anti-Dalit.
BSP leader Nirmal Singh Suman said that crimes against women and Dalits in the state and in UT Chandigarh are increasing day by day and the poor are suffering more and more.
Suman said that the government is unnecessarily taxing the poor due to
which people are finding it hard to meet their
basic needs of food,clothes and shelter. He added
that the students in the state are being forced to go abroad due to lack of
educational opportunities in Punjab.
Another BSP leader Rachhpal Singh Raju condemned the government for doubling the fees in medical colleges and for the increasing divide between the rich and the poor.
