A fire destroyed the upper deck of a double decker rail coach,that was being furnished at the Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala on Thursday.

KAPURTHALA: A fire destroyed the upper deck of a double decker rail coach,that was being furnished at the Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala on Thursday. While the cause of the fire was yet to be determined,the blaze reduced,seats and electricity equipment,among others,to ashes. Timely action,however,saved the coach’s lower deck. RCF authorities,meanwhile,have constituted a three member enquiry committee to ascertain the cause of the fire. RCF Public Relations Officer (PRO) Virender Vij when contacted,said: “ The fire broke out during lunch time but was controlled before it turned ugly.” He added that the three member enquiry committee would include Chief Mechanical Engineer D K Singh,Senior Commandant DR Meena and Deputy Chief Electrical Engineer Mahender Singh.

Khattra joins SAD

CHANDIGARH: Satbir Singh Khattra,who contested the Assembly election as an Independent candidate from Patiala Rural constituency,on Thursday joined back the Shiromani Akali Dal in presence of Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia. Khattra,who had quit Akali Dal after being denied the party ticket,said SAD was the only party that worked for the welfare of oppressed and down-trodden classes.

BJP expels five rebels

CHANDIGARH: State BJP president Ashwani Sharma on Thursday expelled five leaders who are contesting as independent candidates in Ludhiana civic polls. Those expelled include Rajiv Sharma (Ward 17),Pradeep Sharma (Ward 12),Surinder Sharma (Ward 73),Adesh Bhatia (Ward 37) and Radhey Krishan (Ward 16).
