Chandigarh: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh on Thursday reminded Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal of his commitment on acting against the vendetta cases registered against the Congress workers. He also pointed out how a former legislator,Gurpreet Kangar,and 21 others were being falsely implicated in a case under section 307 of the IPC. Amarinder alleged that a “false case” was slapped against the MLA at the behest of his political opponents on the day the results were declared. “Despite the ex-MLA having joined the investigation,the police misled the court saying Kangar was not cooperating. It led to rejection of his bail plea,” he added.

Docs remove 27-kg tumour from woman

JALANDHAR: In a rare surgery,a 27-kg tumour has been removed from a woman’s abdomen by a team of doctors at Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). Sumitra (55),a resident of Nepal,had come to PIMS complaining of pain while breathing and carrying out her daily activities. After conducting tests,it was found that she had a tumour in the abdomen. A team of surgeons headed by Dr Disha Syal conducted a four-hour surgery on Wednesday to take out the tumour.

20 pilgrims injured

NAWANSHAR: At least 20 pilgrims were injured when speeding Vaishno Devi-bound bus from Dehradun (Uttrakhand) overturned after ramming into the road divider near Balachaur here on Jalandhar- Nawanshahr-Chandigarh highway early on Thursday. SSP Nawanshahr,Narinder Bhargav,said that after getting information police teams rushed the injured to hospitals. A case has been registered against the bus driver,Chandeswar,a resident of Dehradun at Balachaur police station.
