JALANDHAR: Lovely Professional University (LPU) along with the Punjab Technical University (PTU) is set to host ‘Bhartiya Vigyan Sammelan and Expo’ from October 11 to 14 in which 3,000 eminent scientists and academics will participate. The Punjab government announced a grant of Rs 50 lakh for the event.

JALANDHAR: The Punjab Technical University (PTU) on Friday morning started the registration-cum-choice filling for the first round of BTech/BArch admission counselling. It will continue till June 30. Rajneesh Arora,PTU vice-chancellor,appealed for students to ensure their seats through online counselling.

High-level body
to address waterlogging

CHANDIGARH: The Planning Commission of India (PCI) has decided to set up a 15-member high-level expert group for addressing issues of waterlogging in Punjab in the wake of the need to enhance water use efficiency in India by 20 per cent during the 12th Five Year Plan. The expert group will submit its report to the PCI by November 30.

Om Puri calls on Badal for promotion of Punjabi theatre

CHANDIGARH: Noted bollywood actor Om Puri,on Friday,called on the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal at hos official residence to apprise him about his plans for the promotion of Punjabi theatre at the newly constructed Harpal Tiwana Centre for Performing Arts (HTCPA),Patiala as a tribute to the legendary theatre personality Harpal Tiwana,a name synonymous with Punjabi theatre. He also thanked Badal for the quick completion of the HTCPA.

NGO Bharat Vikas
Sangh blacklisted

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government has finally blacklisted Jaswanti Devi,secretary of Bharat Vikas Sangh (BVS),and her NGO and any other NGO in which Jaswanti was office bearer. The names have been removed from all committees or boards constituted by the Haryana government. The action was taken on the recommendation of the Deputy Commissioner,Rohtak.

Punjab releases 2nd instalment of arrears

Chandigarh: The Punjab government on Friday released the second instalment of 30 per cent pay arrears for government employees from the period January 1,2006 to July 31,2009. Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa announced that all the HoDs,commissioners of divisions,District and Sessions Judges,Deputy Commissioners and Registrar of the Punjab and Haryana High Court have been asked to promptly act in this regard. Dhindsa also said that the employees who have yet not received the second instalments of their pay arrears from for this period will now get their second instalment.
