Shimla: The Himachal Kisan Sabha,an umbrella body of farmers affiliated to left wing parties,held a mass protest outside the state Assembly on Thursday after taking out a march to highlight the problems being faced by farmers including lack of strong marketing infrastructure,ill-maintained roads,menace of wild animals and lack of irrigation facilities. Led by Kuldeep Tanwar,president of the body,a delegation of the farmers representatives later met Chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and submitted a three-page memorandum.
Agarwal is Punjab info body chief
Chandigarh: The Punjab Government on Thursday issued a notification appointing S C Agrawal as Chief Commissioner of Punjab Right To Service Commission. According to the notification issued by the government,Agrawal would have to resign or seek retirement from the IAS on the date on which he assumes office as Chief Commissioner of Punjab Right To Service Commission. Agrawal would hold the office for a term of five years from the date of on which he enters upon the respective office or until he attains the age of 65 years,whichever is earlier.
GVK power plant to operate from March
Chandigarh: The GVK Thermal Power Plant at Goindwal Sahib will start operating by March,2013,a spokesperson of the Chief Ministers Office said here on Thursday. The spokesperson added that GVK Reddy,Chairman-cum-Managing Director of GVK Power and Infrastructure Limited,had called on Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal at their residence on Thursday to separately apprise them about the status of the ongoing project. Reddy informed the chief minister that the plant would start generating power by March 2013.
