25 kids hospitalised after eating mid-day meal
Rohtak:Twenty-five students were admitted to a hospital on Friday as they were taken ill after eating the mid-day meal at Government Senior Secondary School at Saray Aurangabad village in Jhajjar district of Haryana. K L Kathuriya,Medical Superintendent of PDM Hospital,said 20 students,from classes I to V,were later discharged while five are still under observation. Parents of the children demanded an investigation into the matter. Bahadurgarh SDM Nar Hari Bangar said a team had been constituted to probe the matter.
Haryana JE held on graft charges
Chandigarh:A junior engineer in the state power department has been caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 12,000 from a resident of district Sonepat for installing a transformer. Ranbir Singh,Junior Engineer,Power Utilities,Kundli,was caught while accepting the illegal gratification by the Haryana State Vigilance Bureau,a spokesman said. A case has been registered against the accused under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act,the spokesperson said.
BEOs powers,functions defined
Chandigarh:The Haryana School Education Department has issued a notification regarding powers and functions of block education officers working in the state. BEOs will manage establishment matters of all teaching and non-teaching staff working at senior secondary schools and also deal with commission and court matters. They will assist DEOs and higher authorities in effective defence of various court cases pertaining to the Secondary Education Department.

Chandigarh:Haryanas Women and Child Development Department (WCD) organised a state-orientation programme on Adoption and Foster Care in collaboration with the Central Adoption Resource Authority on Friday to highlight the significance of adoption and foster care of orphaned,abandoned and surrendered children.
Minor girl missing from Rewari village
Rewari:A minor girl was found allegedly missing at her residence at Bahala village here in the district,police said on Friday. The 11-year old girl,who was sleeping in the open compound of her house,was found missing by her parents yesterday,they said. Acting on their complaint,a case of abduction was lodged against a person identified as Rahul. Further probes are on into the case,they added.
Environment studies included in syllabus
Chandigarh:The Punjab government has,finally,included Environment education as a compulsory subject in various diploma courses run by the Punjab State Technical Education Board. This was informed to the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday during the resumed hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by social activist Prabhdayal Singh Randhawa. The petitioner had stated in his PIL filed in 1992 that the Supreme Court had directed all government and various education boards to include,in a graded way,the subject in the syllabus.
