PUNSUP leads in wheat procurement

CHANDIGARH: The state wheat procurement agency of Punjab – PUNSUP – claims to have procured the most wheat from armers in the state. According to a statement released by the Punjab government on Sunday,PUNSUP procured 27,692,40 tonnes of wheat (22.61 per cent) of the total procurement in the state,till May 12; while the government agencies and private millers,together,had procured more than 122,499,82 tonnes of wheat till Saturday evening.

Punjab to crack down on child labour

CHANDIGARH: In an attempt to put an end to child labour in the state,the Punjab government has announced new schemes for saving child labourers from the hands of their employers. Disclosing this here on Sunday,Labour Minister Surjit Kumar Jiyani,said: “As many as 1,959 child labourers were rescued in the state,out of whom 1,284 were doing dangerous jobs. For this,1,802 culprits have been booked across Punjab”.

Majithia seeks US cooperation

CHANDIGARH: In a bid to further accelerate the pace of ongoing development in the state particularly in the fields of education,health,industry,business,information technology,renewal energy,besides strengthening bilateral relations; the Punjab government has sought broad cooperation from the United States of America. Demanding a ‘mutual exchange program’ with the US on agriculture,industry and education,the state NRI Affairs Minister Bikram Singh Majithia has urged the US Consulate General Political,Herro Muspha,to cooperate with the Punjab government and added that the state was ready to follow the requisite procedures. Mushpa had called on Majithia,at his residence on Sunday. According to the state government,Muspha had assured that the US will extend support.

VSK awards for journalists

SHIMLA: The Vishwa Samwad Kendra – a pro-RSS body on Sunday conferred awards on journalists on the occasion of Narad Jayanti at a function organised that saw the participation of Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal. Those honoured included a senior journalist P C Lohumi,Poonam Bhardwaj,a woman journalist working in Divya Himachal,Rakesh Sharma,Bureau Chief,City Channel for Electronic Media,Nikunj Sood,young journalist and Bureau Chief,Amar Ujala and photo journalist Amit Kanwar.
