At a public meeting in Mauli Jagran on Sunday, local MP Pawan Kumar Bansal criticised the BJP for being anti-people and proving to be a hindrance in the proceedings of Parliament due to which many important Bills were still pending.
Mentioning the Food Security Bill,Bansal alleged the BJP was making a mockery of democracy. He said the Bill had to be passed by the UPA government as an ordinance because of the BJPs constant opposition. Now the subsidised food scheme, which plans to benefit 67 per cent of the population, would be launched from August 20.
He said almost 50 per cent population of Chandigarh would benefit from this scheme with wheat and rice being available at low rates. Bansal further said the Congress was always committed towards working for the welfare of the people.
Maximum funds had been provided to Chandigarh by the UPA government specially for the development of villages and colonies in order to bring them at par with the city.
Bansal added a rehabilitation scheme for 25,000 slum dwellers had been passed and almost 14,000 houses were ready to accommodate them. Also,he said, many schemes for the poor were being implemented like self help groups for women, insurance schemes, midday meal schemes for children. Bansal further said that surveys for rehabilitating road-side vendors had been done and the UPA government was making policies to ensure a means of livelihood for them.
