Punjab BJP chief and Union minister Vijay Sampla has said his party would declare its candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections only after it completes four surveys it is conducting in the state. “We have completed three surveys and the last one will be conducted in November. Candidates would be declared in December,” he said in Jalandhar on Saturday. These surveys related to the issues of the people in Punjab, he said.

Asked about his comments on Navjot Singh Sidhu on the his Facebook page in which he had targeted the former BJP MP, Sampla said Sidhu was committing a ‘political suicide’.
BJP sources said the chairman of Punjab SC/ST Commission Rajesh Baggha and Kimti Bhagat, the chairman of Punjab Gau Sewa Commission, were being considered for the Phagwara and Jalandhar West (both reserved) seats. BJP’s Som Parkash is the sitting MLA from Phagwara while Jalandhar West seat is currently held by Bhagat Chuni Lal, Punjab’s forest minister. Both Rajesh Baggha and Kimti Bhagat are Dalits and are said to be close to Sampla.
