THE ROUTE to be taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Francois Hollande will witness folk performances at six different spots. The proposal of the Chandigarh unit of BJP has received approval from the Prime Minister’s Office and Ministry of External Affairs.

“We have got permission from the PMO. We are working out the entire thing and will be submitting the plan in writing to the administration. The aim is to make the trip memorable for the Prime Minister and the French President,” said city BJP chief Sanjay Tandon.

At a meeting with UT Adviser Vijay Kumar Dev on Friday afternoon, the city BJP leaders tried hard to get permission for folk performances on six spots but the administration said no owing to security reasons, and said that permission could be taken from the PMO.

“We are making arrangements for dancers who will perform Bhangra, Gidda or Haryanavi dances,” said a BJP leader, requesting anonymity.

The BJP leaders have been making attempts to be among those who would be receiving the Prime Minister at the airport on Sunday. Tandon, who is coordinating with the PMO, has sent a list of 15 names from Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana that may be allowed at the airport to receive the PM.

“The final call has to be taken by the PMO but five names each from all the three places have been sent,” said Tandon.

Sources said that names of MPs Rattan Lal Kataria, Raj Kumar Saini and Om Prakash Dhankar, one of the two MLAs, Gian Chand Gupta or Latika Sharma, and Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala are likely to be on the list of the names sent from Haryana. All four ministers of Punjab along with Punjab BJP chief Kamal Sharma are the names sent from Punjab. Apart from Tandon, two general secretaries of the city unit are likely to find a mention from Chandigarh.
