A BJP councillor on Tuesday sent a written complaint to the Inspector General of Police against a Sub-Inspector of Industrial Area police station for allegedly illegally detaining a resident of Sector 30-B.

According to complainant Satinder Singh,sub-inspector Davinder Pal Singh allegedly detained Mohit Sharma for about 12 hours on charges of voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful restraint and criminal intimidation under sections of the IPC.

According to police,Sharma,23,was involved in a brawl at a wine shop on the night of August 10 and was arrested the next morning.

Satinder Singh alleged that when members of the BJP visited the police station,Davinder Singh, the investigating officer, told the complainant that Sharma would be produced before the court on August 12 and would have to ask the court for bail.

“When I visited the police station,Mohit was granted bail after we paid an amount of Rs 12,000. Davinder misled everyone by deliberately detaining Sharma and then demanding a hefty amount for the bail,” Singh alleged .

When contacted Davinder said,“I did not ask for any money for granting bail, but only for a proof of formal identification of Sharma.
