Beniwal stars in DAVSSS-8 tournament win

An all-round performance by Jashan Beniwal (17 no and 3 for 13) propelled DAV Senior Secondary School (Lahore), Sector 8, Chandigarh to a nine-wicket win over St Joseph’s School, Chandigarh and to win the the UT Inter-School Cricket Tournament (U-14) at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 26 on Tuesday.

Batting first after winning the toss, St Joseph’s School batsmen could not handle the pressure applied by DAV bowlers and were bundled out for a paltry total of 46 runs in 11 overs. Abhiraj was the top scorer for the team as he played a knock of 21 runs. Aryan Chaudhary contributed seven runs.

For DAV Senior Secondary School (Lahore), Jashan Beniwal was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed three wickets for 13 runs while Gyan grabbed three wickets for 18 runs. Nishunk Birla claimed two wickets for eight runs. Chasing the target, DAV Senior Secondary School (Lahore) reached the target for the loss of one wicket in nine overs. Jashan Beniwal remained unbeaten on 17 runs while Sahil also remained unbeaten on 18 runs. For St Joseph’s School, Aryan Chaudhary claimed one wicket for 18 runs.

Earlier in the semi-finals, DAV Senior Secondary School, Lahore scored a 100-run win over Chandigarh Baptist School. Batting first, Dav Senior Secondary School (Lahore) posted a total of 178 for the loss of four wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Vikas Yadav played a knock of 70 runs while Jashan Beniwal remained unbeaten on 40 runs. For Chandigarh Baptist School, Anikat claimed one wicket for 28 runs. Chasing the target, Chandigarh Baptist School were bundled out for a total of 79 runs in 15.4 overs. Anikat played a knock of 30 runs. For the winning team, Beniwal claimed four wickets for 14 runs while Gyan took two wickets for 16 runs. In the second semi-final, St Joseph’s School scored a 52-run win over Delhi Public School, Chandigarh.
