Overcoming the GST blues, the automobile sector particularly two-wheelers and mid-segment cars, witnessed a fairly good response from consumers on Dhanteras. Jewellers, too, in a bid to attract buyers, came out with lucrative offers, while shopkeepers banked on heavy discounts. As people thronged markets for last-minute shopping, heavy rush was witnessed in the evening in all markets including those located in Sectors 22, 19 and 35.
From offering huge discounts to lucky draw coupons the automobile market witnessed good sales and booking during the day. “We have seen a good rush and zeal from customers on Dhanteras. People are showing great interest in two-wheelers. We have sold more than 50 units of two wheelers including scooters and bikes. To boost up sales, we are offering Paytm offer of Rs 5,000 and scratch card coupons till Diwali”, said Ibras Hussain, sales manager of Swami Automobile private limited, in Industrial Area Phase-1, Chandigarh.
“Splendor Plus, Passion Pro, glamour, Ismart 110 , Maestro Edge Duet , pulsar are the models which the youth are opting for. We are getting full booking demands during the festive season. We have been able to sold more than 100 units of two wheelers. For this season, we have different offers for different buyers along with schemes” said Jatinder Jaswal, general manager Charisma Hero dealers, in Industrial Area Phase-1 Chandigarh.
Like two-wheelers, the car segment also received a good response. “Market response is good than it was expected. We have exchange offers for various models and attractive cash discounts for petrol and diesel cars till Diwali. On Dhanteras, we sold 20 units of four-wheelers and received 15 bookings”,said Saurabh Sood, sales manager ,Charisma Goldwheels Pvt. Ltd, in Industrial Area Phase-1, Chandigarh.
“No doubt GST has affected the car market to a great extent, but Dhanteras has proved to be an exception. People are visiting showrooms to purchase cars. It is a good sign after a long time. We have good schemes for different segment of customers like cash discounts and corporate discounts. Mid-sement cars including Swift, Alto K10 and Brezza are the primary choice among people.” said Alexander, marketing head CM auto sales Pvt. Ltd, Industrial Area Phase-1, Chandigarh.
“First four to five months were tough for us after GST was imposed. The situation has improved from Navratri. On Dhanteras, till evening, more than 100 units have been booked and 75 vehicles are to be delivered. We are expecting more sales till Diwali end,” said Shyam Sharma, sales head in Berkeley Tata Motors, Industrial Area Phase-1, Chandigarh.
Jewellery sector optimistic
Like the automobile industry, the jewellery sector, too, witnessed a postive response from buyers. “Dhanteras has been good for us till now. The sales have been good and market response is better than average days. We are giving good discounts in gold and diamonds to attract more and more customers atleast during this festive season. Post GST, the market slowed down but we hope the situation gets under control till end of the year”, said Manoj Aggarwal, owner of PC Jeweller Ltd, Sector 22.
Echoing similar views, Manoj Aggarwal, owner of PC Jeweller Ltd, Sector 22, said, “We have come up with buy one get one free offer in diamond jewelleries for the whole festive season. Market response is good from last year. GST has an affect in whole market but we are trying to balance it through attractive offers and festive schemes. We are offering good discounts on gold”.
