The Panjab University (PU) authorities have given the students of BCom second year, who had appeared for Cost Accounting exam, two options either to get 14 grace marks in the said paper,or to re-take the exam this September.
The students were stumped on April 10 when they appeared for their Cost Accounting exam,as the entire paper was based on theoretical questions, against the rules which said that the paper should have 50 theoretical questions and 50 practical questions.
An emergency meeting of the Syndicate was called on May 2 to decide about this paper.
However, the House had unanimously resolved that there will be no re-examination of the paper and authorised the Vice-Chancellor,Prof Arun Kumar Grover,to decide the quantum of grace marks to be given to the students.
The Syndicate members had earlier rejected the decision of the undergraduate board of studies of commerce of PU to award 20 grace marks to all B Com students.
Controller of Examination (CoE) Dr Parvinder Singh said,There are two options before the students and those students who are not satisfied with the grace marks can re-take the exam without any charges.
Regarding the goof-ups in various exams this year,Dr Singh said from the next time, the office of the CoE will amend the instructions that are meant for the paper setter.
At present,if any paper setter commits a mistake,he is debarred from setting the paper, but some strict message should go across in the teaching fraternity,he stressed.
