Former Union Railways minister and local MP Pawan Kumar Bansal in a letter to Union Denfence Minister A K Antony, has sought extension of watch hours till 11 pm at Chandigarh Airport. In his letter to the Defence Minister,Bansal has also asked for upgrade of Instrument Landing System (ILS).
Bansal,in his letter, has highlighted the fact that international flights to and from Chandigarh have not been introduced so far because the Ministry of Defence has not extended the watch hours to 11 pm,needed for the purpose. adding that the upgraded civil terminal at the airport came up three years ago and facilities have been provided for introduction of international flights. He said that Chandigarh being the capital of two important states of Punjab and Haryana, and also being a gateway to Himachal Pradesh, needs international air connectivity.
According to Bansal,Chandigarh being an important hub for banking, corporate, educational and medical facilities, besides being an important tourist destination, will be benefited by the introduction of international flights and it will reduce the rush at the Delhi airport.
In his letter,Bansal has also stressed that Instrument Landing System (ILS) needs upgrade by installation of Approaching Lighting System to avoid delays due to fog in winter season.
