Union Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal will inaugurate the newly constructed Chandigarh-Ludhiana track on Friday. The Chandigarh-Amritsar Superfast Express will be the first train to ply on this track.
The train will be flagged off from the railway station at 5 pm. While two portions of the 112-km track were operational, the third portion between New Morinda-Sahnewal was recently completed. Due to the portion being incomplete, trains were required to take a detour. The Chandigarh-Amritsar Superfast Express will now take 40 minutes less to cover the distance.
The train will now have stoppages at Mohali,Ludhiana,Jalandhar and Beas in both the directions. The train will now depart from Chandigarh 5.30 pm,reach Ludhiana at 7.05 pm and Amritsar at 9.10 pm. The train will start from Amritsar at 5.20 am,reach Ludhiana at 7.15 am and arrive at Chandigarh at 9.05 am.
It was after Bansal took over as the Railway Minister that the track, which was proposed almost 15 years back, was completed. More trains are expected to start on the route soon.
