Bansal inaugurates youth peace fest

The 8th International Youth Peace Fest,inaugurated on Saturday,witnessed a grand opening.

The 8th International Youth Peace Fest,inaugurated on Saturday,witnessed a grand opening with 250 participants representing over 20 countries. MP Pawan Kumar Bansal inaugurated the fest at Government Post Graduate College,Sector 11.

For the inauguration,a special ceremony was organised where the representatives mixed soil and water they had brought from their respective countries. Bernie Mayor,the American Gandhi from the USA,Markandey Rai,chief,Inter-Agency Coordination,Global Parliamentarians and Trade Unions,Kenya,Rajinder Rana,MLA,Himachal Pradesh and Ninette Vas Sharma,wife of Advisor K K Sharma were present on the occasion.

Delegates from countries like the USA,Australia,China,Nepal,Egypt,Nigeria,Afghanistan,Kazakhstan,Indonesia,Pakistan,Thailand,Russia and Brazil participated in the programme. Some of the international participants from China and Pakistan also addressed the gathering to share their experiences.

On the occasion,Pawan Bansal released a UN-Habitat report on the state of urban youth in India and honoured Santosh Kumar,the director,Department of Science and Technology,for his contribution in promoting solar energy in the city. While addressing the delegates,Markandey Rai encouraged the young students and said,“The opinions from the young people really matter to the government,which is why they should raise their voice to demand their rights to move people in power to listen to them.”
