Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday approved the proposal to set up a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for defence material manufacturing units and asked the industries department to chalk out a plan in this regard.
Interacting with a delegation of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) at his office,Badal announced that the state government will soon set up hostels for industrial women workers and migrant labourers in Ludhiana,Jalandhar and Amritsar in a joint venture with the local industry to provide lodging facilities to workers on reasonable charges.
Urging industrialists and entrepreneurs not to allow the flow of non-treated industrial effluents,toxic chemicals and sewage into rivers,Badal also appealed to the industry to adhere to environment and pollution norms and initiate a campaign for plantation of trees in and around their industrial units. The government will soon introduce cotton picking machines in the state, the CM further said.
The government also decided to set up different sub-committees on power,labour,agriculture and industry to address the problems faced by these sectors.
