A punjabi music award night scheduled to be held on Wednesday evening at Tau Devi Lal Stadium was cancelled because government officials claimed that event organisers had not sought prior permission from the government.

“Organisers planned to conduct the show inside the athletic pavilion of the stadium, where no such programme can be permitted. Moreover, the only office that can grant permission is that of HUDA or DC. The organisers did not have permission from either of them,” said Ashwini Sharma,HUDA Estate Officer.

However, the organisers of the show maintained that they had sought permission from the District Sports Council and did not know that the permission was to be granted by the HUDA officials.

According to Superintendent Engineer N K Verma, the ground for the athletic pavilion is a synthetic track prepared with international standards where no general public or vehicles are allowed to enter. Only athletes with professional shoes can practise inside the pavilion.

The event was the second edition of BIG Punjabi Music Awards where renowned Punjabi folk singer Dolly Gulleria and music director Atul Sharma were invited as jury members. As many as 19 award categories were to be presented. Famous singers Honey Singh,Gippy Grewal,Ali brothers,Rabi Shergill,Sikander Khan,Amarinder Gill and Miss Pooja were to perform.
