Attempt to stop a quarrel lands police constable in hospital

In yet another incident of a cop being at the receiving end while confronting miscreants,a Chandigarh police constable suffered head injuries after he tried to intervene in a quarrel between two travel agents on Wednesday. The miscreants,who have been booked for causing hurt to a public servant,are absconding.

At 10.30 pm on Wednesday,travel agents Suraj and Shiv Kumar were involved in a heated argument over a customer’s query near the main gate of Sector 43 bus stand.

A police party of around 10-12 personnel patrolling in the area noticed the duo,who were on the verge of hitting each other.

When the police tried to intervene,Suraj,who held a baseball bat hit Constable Sarabjit Singh. However,the police then claimed Suraj hit the constable by mistake.

They said Suraj was trying to hit Shiv Kumar,but hit Singh instead.

Singh suffered head injuries and was taken to Government Multi Specialty Hospital,Sector 16,for treatment.

Meanwhile,the accused alleged that the police hit the two after trying to control the situation. According to the police,a medical examination of the accused has been conducted and no signs of injury were observed.

It was on Thursday that the police filed a complaint against the two miscreants. However,the two were found absconding when the police reached their residences.

Suraj (24) is a resident of Sector 25,while Shiv Kumar (25) is a resident of Sector 45.

In a previous incident, two police constables,including a woman constable were thrashed by five allegedly drunk miscreants after the police confronted them.
