At PGI,paediatrics dept has most MD/MS empty seats

PGIMER conducted the MD/MS exam to fill 164 vacant seats in 20 departments last Sunday.

Of the 164 seats for the Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Master of Surgery (MS) courses in Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER),the Paediatrics department has the maximum vacant seats with 23 such seats,followed by the department of Internal Medicine with 22 seats.

PGIMER conducted the MD/MS exam to fill 164 vacant seats in 20 departments last Sunday.

At present,there are 14 seats available in General Surgery,13 in Anaesthesia and six seats each in Ophthalmology,Orthosurgery and Radio- diagnosis. The departments which have five or lesser number of seats vacant are Pharmacology and Transfusion Medicine with five seats each; Com Medicine and ENT department with four seats,followed by departments of Dermatology,Nuclear Medicine and Radiotherapy with three seats each.

Meanwhile,the Forensic medicine department has only one vacant seat.

As per the officials,the most sought after departments are Internal Medicine,Orthopaedics,Radiotherapy and Anaesthesia.

“There are departments which are more popular among MD/MS applicants. It includes medicine,orthopaedics,radiotherapy and anaesthesia. The seats are filled in the first counselling only,” said administrative officer Lekh Raj.

Three rounds of counselling will be held before the final selection takes place.

“The first counselling for MD/MS is on December 14 at 2:30pm in Bharghava Auditorium. The second counselling is on January 10 and the third is on January 20,” said P C Akela,an officer in the admission cell.

About 8,000 candidates appeared for the MD/MS exam,the results for which were declared the next day.
