Though the Congress’ list of candidates for the January 30 polls is yet to be out, some of the families of the aspiring candidates have already started campaigning, especially in cases where the leaders know that their names will be there when the list is announced on January 4. On the other hand,a section of aspirants are stationed in New Delhi and waiting with bated breadth to ensure that their names are on this list.

Swaran Jain, wife of sitting MLA from Moga Joginderpal Jain, held a door-to-door campaign for her husband on Tuesday. “The tickets could be announced late tonight as well. My name is on the list and so,we did not want to miss out on any more days. While my wife has already begun a full-fledged campaign,I am holding small meetings, just a kind of warm up before we take the plunge head on after January 4,” said Joginderpal.

Similarly,Barnala constituency aspirant Kewal Dhillon has already launched his sons Kanwar and Karan in the campaign arena while he waits on the fringes for the final green signal. However,Dhillon’s seat from Branala is more or less sure.

Babu Brar, son of three-times Congress MLA from Fardikot Avtar Singh Brar,is campaigning for his father while the MLA himself is in New Delhi to ensure that his name figures in the list and is not replaced by Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon alias Kiki, who joined the Congress recently after breaking away from PPP. “We are 200 per cent sure that my father will get the seat. Kiki will be sent to Kotkapura. No anti-incumbency factor is facing my father, who has served Faridkot constituency like his own child. It is not just that my father wants the seat, even the people of Faridkot want to see him as their MLA,” said his son.

Meanwhile,Bharat Bhushan Ashoo — a councillor from Ludhiana, who is being touted as a strong candidate for Ludhiana West — is also stationed in the national capital. “I am here to ensure that I get a ticket,” said Ashoo.

With most of the ticket aspirants ensconced in Delhi,a lull in the Congress camp is more than evident. A lone jeep can be seen canvassing for the party in Malerkotla. This jeep does not have a photo of any local Congress leader — it is decked up with pictures of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi.
