AroundTown: Firing outside SSP’s residence: Charges framed against two police constables

A local court on Thursday framed charges on the two former Chandigarh Police constables who had allegedly fired at their senior officer outside the UT Senior Superintendent of Police house in Sector 16 a few months back.

CHANDIGARH: A local court on Thursday framed charges on the two former Chandigarh Police constables who had allegedly fired at their senior officer outside the UT Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) house in Sector 16 a few months back. The two had created a ruckus in an inebriated state in the wee hours on March 12. They had hurled abuses at their senior police officers,and had reached the official residence of UT SSP in Sector 16.

PU students say no to scrapping of police administration course

CHANDIGARH: Representatives of Panjab University Student Union (PUSU) today demonstrated against decision of the Academic Committee of Evening Studies Department on scrapping Police Administration course. Nearly 150 BA (evening studies) students had opted for the subject last year. However,citing shortage of faculty members for teaching these students,the Academic Committee had recommended to scrap the course from the new session.

I-T sleuths conclude search operations

CHANDIGARH: Search operations initiated on Wednesday against three of the four builders concluded today. However,search operations on two premises belonging to one builder in Chandigarh were still on till late evening. On Wednesday,Income Tax sleuths had carried out search operations on as many as 24 premises belonging to four builders in the region.

Manual on school
health released

Chandigarh: The Governor of Punjab and UT Administrator Shivraj V Patil released the ‘Manual on Health Promoting Schools’ here today. On the basis of about eight parameters,a school can get itself categorised as a Health Promoting School. Some of the criterion are,healthy and a hygienic environment at school,physical education and activity,proper nutrition,community participation and due importance to emotional and mental health.
