An Army officer,Vinod Kumar,was found dead near the Chandi Mandir railway lines,early on Monday morning by the railway police.

CHANDIGARH: An Army officer,Vinod Kumar,was found dead near the Chandi Mandir railway lines,early on Monday morning by the railway police. According to police,the victim was trying to cross the railway lines while a train was about to pass. Postmortem tests will be done on Tuesday.

Sectors 17,18 road gullies inspected

Chandigarh: An inspection of the road gullies in ward 17 and 18 of Chandigarh,including Sectors 18,19,21,27 and 28,was carried out by Mayor Raj Bala Malik. The officials of the engineering wing of the MC were asked to carry out necessary repair work and clean the road gullies and ensure proper maintenance.

Surprise checks on school buses

Chandigarh: Officials from the State Transport Authority conducted surprise checks of school buses in different parts of the city. The drive was conducted following complaints of rash driving,overloading and buses plying without attendants. Five school buses were challaned for overloading. Similar drives will also be conducted against autorickshaws ferrying school children.

PU scholar invited to Europe

CHANDIGARH: Jasmeet Kaur,a research scholar from the Department of Physics,Panjab University,has been invited to present her work on nuclear structure in two international conferences on nuclear physics to be held in Trieste (Italy) in August and in Zakapone (Poland) in September 2012.
