Framing of charges against Amarinder,Jagjit adjourned
A Special Court in Mohali on Saturday once again adjourned the framing of charges against former Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh,his former Local Government Minister Ch Jagjit Singh,former chairman of Amritsar Improvement Trust (AIT) Jugal Kishore Sharma,former secretary of Punjab Vidhan Sabha Nachhattar Singh Mavi and 12 other bigwigs named as accused in a high-profile graft and criminal case pertaining to AIT land scam. Special Judge SK Garg posted the matter to February 26 after the defence counsels sought to adjourn the matter till a plea filed by Amarinder seeking quashing of FIR pending before the Punjab and Haryana High Court was decided.

2-kg uterus removed
Doctors at Civil Hospital,Phase VI,here claim to have successfully removed an over 2-kg uterus from a 52-year-old woman. A team comprising surgeons Neera Verma,Tamann and anaesthesists Paramjeet Singh and Deepak Berry performed the operation,which is rare in a local hospital.

825 BPL youths get jobs
As many as 825 rural Below Poverty Line (BPL) youths from seven districts of Punjab,Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand got placement in a first-ever mega rural job mela held at the ITFT College campus on the PGI-Mullanpur-Majri Road here on Saturday. An ITFT spokesperson said 951 rural youths from BPL families drawn from 14 blocks,two each from the districts of Hoshiarpur,Fatehgarh Sahib,Ropar,Mohali,Amritsar,Dehradun and Hamirpur,had an interface with more than two dozen corporate at the mela.

Karnal man held with pistol
Karnal resident Vijay Kumar was arrested and the local police claimed to have recovered a .315 bore country-made pistol and two live cartridges from his possession. A police party spotted him in Phase VII at around 4.15 pm and searched him,getting the arm and cartridges,for which he failed to produce any valid license.

2 held with stolen bike
The local police arrested two persons Randhir Singh alias Raju and Surmukh Singh of Kharar and claimed to have recovered a stolen motorcycle from them. A motorcycle of Rattan,a resident Rattan of Colony 5,Chandigarh,was allegedly stolen from Kharar on January 28 by the accused.

Four get jail terms
A lower Court of Chandigarh on Saturday awarded two years’ imprisonment to four brothers in a case which dates back to 2003. The Court also slapped a penalty of Rs 30,000 on each of the accused.

1 sent to custody for theft
The district courts here sent Guddu,a resident of Uttar Pradesh,to judicial custody (JC) on Saturday. With his arrest,the police claimed to have solved a steel shattering plates’ theft case,which occurred at an under-construction building near IT Park,Mansa Devi Complex,Panchkula,on Friday.

NSS camp held
An NSS Camp was organized at PML SD Public School,Sector 32 from January 22 to 28. A total of 96 volunteers under the guidance of programme officers V S Pathania and Jayant Kumar participated in the camp.

Oil saving clinic
The NSS units of Dev Samaj College of Education,Sector-36 B,organised an LPG and Kerosene Conservation Clinic in association with HPCL. Safe practices for use of LPG equipment and various techniques for saving LPG and Kerosene were discussed.
