Argument turns into brawl in Mohali,gunshots fired

A trivial issue of strolling with a pet dog outside a house in Mohali Sector 70 led to altercation between two neighbours after which one them allegedly firing gunshots in the air on Tuesday evening. No one was reported to be injured in the gunfire,but both parties sustained injuries during the brawl.

According to police,Shamsher Purkhalvi,President of Dalit Chetna Manch and Congress worker Surinder Singh Rajput got into an argument after Shamsher and his son objected to Rajput’s son taking a stroll outside their house along with his friends and dog. The issue took an ugly turn and both parties allegedly dealt blows to each other.

This resulted in heated arguments and Purkhalvi and Rajput rained blows on each other.

Later Purkhalvi allegedly fired three shots in the air. According to DSP (City) Sharanjit Singh,three shells were recovered from the spot and the revolver was seized.

He added that Purkhalvi has three licensed revolvers registered in his name. Two of these were deposited with the police due to the Assembly elections.

“Purkhalvi claimed that he sought permission from the DC to keep the revolver,but was unable to produce evidence to support his statement,” added the DSP.

Both parties were later taken to Civil Hospital for a medical examination. No case was registered till the filling of this report as statements of both parties were being recorded.
