Mohali Cricket Association (MCA) Academy were already past the 100-run mark. Anshul,MCA’s top scorer, was still on the crease, caressing the ball and running meticulously between the wickets and cleverly exploiting the gaps. Yet,when Anshul was batting on 79,still 21 runs shy away from what would have been a fantastic century,he lost his concentration and threw away his wicket. However,Veer Kanwar batted sensibly to ensure his team a thrilling three-wicket win over CCA in the inaugural match of the GNPS Cup for Under-12 played at Guru Nanak Public School Ground in Sector 36 on Saturday.
Earlier,CCA won the toss and elected to bat first. Opening batsman Yuvraj Singh looked in wonderful touch and smashed a 76-ball 59 to help the team post 154 runs on the board for the loss of eight wickets in 40 overs. The other CCA batsman to offer some resistance was Harnoor Pannu who chipped in with a breezy 30,which he made off 66 balls.
For MCA,Anshul and Ashwin were the most successful bowlers as they picked up two wickets each.
In reply,MCA were given a sound start by their opener Anshul who top scored with 79 runs. Anshul, who had earlier picked up two wickets, played a stellar knock. His wonderful innings included 11 hits to the boundary. MCA reached the target for the loss of seven wickets in 36.5 overs. Kabeer Rana was the pick of the bowlers for CCA as the off-spinner made full use of the track and grabbed three wickets for 18 runs. Another leg-spinner Arshnoor Pannu, also bowled well to claim two wickets for 30 runs.
