Dissident Congress workers led by former municipal councilors and veteran leaders have revolted against the Ambala City party MLA Venod Sharma for alleged conspiracy to defeat the dedicated candidates in the Municipal Corporation elections that concluded on June 2 here. The dissidents served a warning that if Sharma was given a party ticket again from Ambala assembly constituency, they would be compelled to come out on the roads to oppose him. This decision was taken by the dissidents at a meeting which was presided over by the District Congress Urban Committee president Harish Sasan at Congress Bhawan on Sunday.
The speakers, one after another, criticised the style of working of the MLA by adopting discriminatory policy in extending support to such candidates who had never been loyal to the party. The speakers alleged that the MLA went against the party policy directions issued by Haryana Party Incharge B K Hari Prasad, according to which no party MLA or Congress leadership was to support any candidate seeking election for the corporation. But the local MLA not only went against the directions,he openly came out in support of the Congress-supported candidates, and opposed the old and dedicated candidates by issuing statements against them.
The meeting, through a unanimous resolution, demanded the suspension of the MLA from the party for his alleged anti-party activities. It was also decided that a resolution duly adopted by the DCCU would be sent to the party high command against the MLA. The speakers, including the old guard like Dinesh Goel,Harinde Sharma,Kiran Bala Jain,Gurdial Singh Gotra and others criticised the role of the MLA and demanded that he not be given a party ticket in the next Vidhan Sabha election since he was an outsider. They also alleged that he always worked against the party interests by creating division among the workers.
However, the supporters of the MLA held a meeting chaired by the Block Committee president Ajaib Singh, and resolved that they would approach the Haryan Incharge B K Hari Prasad and would complain against the DCCU President Harish Sasan, alleging that he had no right to continue as the president of the Ambala party unit and he should be removed from the post for his anti-party activities. They praised Sharma for the development of the city. The condemned those who had been working against the MLA. These leaders included MC Dalip Chawla,MC Daljit Singh Bhatia,Dharampal Kalia,Ravinder Gupta and others.
