Air Commodore S C Chafekar will hand over the command of 12 Wing,Air Force Station,Chandigarh to Air Commodore S K Indoria on May 1.
A ceremonial parade will be conducted by the air warriors for the handing-over ceremony. Air Commodore S C Chafekar took over the command of 12 wing,air force,Chandigarh on 2 May 2011 and is handing over the charge after a tenure of two years. He was commissioned on 28 December 1982 into the IAF as a transport pilot and has achieved various feats. The Air Officer has the unique distinction of serving in different capacities at Chandigarh base. During his last tenure as CO of the 48 sqn at chandigarh base,he executed trial landings at three ALGs DBO (16200ft),Nyoma (13500ft) and Fukche (13500ft).
DBO being the highest airfield in the world,for his professional courage and competence,Air Commodore SC Chafekar was awarded the Shaurya Chakra for the task. He has also to his credit certain rare achievements in terms of planning and execution of Nyoma static drop,air maintenance of Jammu and Kashmir region and the recent visit of the President to his base on 15 Mar this year wherein the standard of the guard of honour drew the appreciation of the President. He has also held the appointment of PD Ops (T&H) at air headquarters,New Delhi where he was in charge of IAF transport fleet before taking over the command of 12 wing,air force. During his meritorious service spanning over 30 years,he has more than 7,000 hours of flying experience on various types of aircraft on the inventory of IAF. Air Commodore SC Chafekar has served in various capacities prior to taking over as Air Officer Commanding of 12 Wing,Air Force,Chandigarh and now moves on to air headquarters,New Delhi as Principal Director Operations (space).
