Ahead of admission season,PU looks to beef up security

In a bid to strengthen security on the Panjab University (PU) campus,the varsity has decided to recruit 24 more security personnel and around four CCTV cameras will be installed in the area where help desks of the various student outfits would be set up on June 25.

A total of 359 security personnel are working on the campus against the sanctioned strength of 439. At present over 60 CCTV cameras are installed on the campus at various key locations on the campus. After the induction of 24 security men ,the number of the total security force on the campus will be 383.

The varsity will take four cameras on rent. One day rent will costs Rs 600 to PU. The varsity is all set to conduct the draw of lots on June 24 to allot dedicated places to all the students’ outfits for setting up help desks. These help desks are set up to help the new comer with the admissions.

After the June 18 incident where estranged members of one of the students outfits on the campus – Panjab University Students Union (PUSU)- had attacked the working party president Yadwinder outside the PU gate number one ,the varsity security have become more vigil.

Sources informed the interview of 24 people are already over and soon they would be issued appointment letters.

Moreover,it is also learnt that the varsity authorities have all ready got all the CCTV cameras repaired. Talking to Newsline,Chief Security Officer,Anil Monga said,“We will be having more people into the PU security. All the cameras on the campus are working.”

In order to keep a check on the anti social elements,Monga said that instructions have been issued to the security force to strictly check the vehicles entering the varsity and constant vigil will be made in the hostels just to check if outsiders are staying in the hostels.
