The UT Powermen Union Wednesday called off their one-day strike scheduled on June 16. The union had called the strike to press the administration for their long-pending demands.
The decision was taken after the administration gave assurance to resolve their issues at the earliest. Chief engineer, Mukesh Anand, called the delegation of the union and assured to consider the pending demands of the UT Powermen Union.
Anand also appraised the union that the department has restored the electricity concession being provided to the employees.

Anand further said that order of appointment of 216 posts of assistant lineman, 33 posts of lineman and 50 posts of LDC has been approved and the process of filling up these posts will be completed within 20 days. The electricity department has also floated tenders for purchase of safety equipment.
Gopal Datt Joshi, general secretary of the union , said that the administration should consider their demands.
The union has been demanding filling up of the 700 vacant posts in the department for the longest time now. Removal of pay anomalies of the employees and providing jobs to the next kin of deceased employees are the other demands that the union was pressing for.
The union has also been demanding fault locating vans, boom ladders, cable joints, meters, fuse wires and other material in the store.
